mm2 Chinese Scriptwriting Masterclass 2016

INTRODUCTION

The mm2 Chinese Scriptwriting Masterclass is organised by mm2 Entertainment, as Part 1 of a programme designed to develop and nurture new Chinese writers in the film industry.

 

Masterclass

Participants selected will undergo a 4-day Masterclass consisting of

 

(a) 4 Classes by a main speaker guiding you through the fundamentals of screenwriting

 

and

 

(b) 4 Seminars by 4 guest speakers on the Asian screenwriting industry

 

At the end of the Masterclass, participants will be tasked to submit an assignment consisting of a 600-800 character treatment and an 8-page script with dialogue. This assignment will be used for selection of participants for Part 2 of the programme

Workshop

Selected applicants will go through a 6-month intensive script workshop led by a mentor.

 

The mentor will guide participants in a lab-style workshop, from conceptualising and idea, to formalising a treatment, writing a full script and editing the script.

 

At the end of the 6-month workshop, participants will have produced a full-length Chinese script.

 

Selected projects will be shortlisted to be produced.

 

 

More details on the Script Workshop will be released at a later date.

Production

Selected scripts produced from the Script Workshop will be produced into feature films by mm2 Entertainment.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Sunny Chan 陈詠燊

Hong Kong

 

A graduate of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts – Film and Television, Mr Sunny Chan is a renowned and experience Chinese writer from Hong Kong, with a portfolio of works across various media including film, TV, radio, internet, and publishing/print. He also has extensive experience in corporate management and teaching in tertiary education institutions. In 2001, his first screenplay after graduating garnered him the Best Screenplay Award at the Hong Kong Film Critics Association’s 7th Golden Bauhinia Awards. Sunny is currently lecturing at the Hong Kong Design Institute, Department of Communication Design and Digital Media.

Chan Khan 陈汗

Hong Kong

 

After graduating from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Department of Chinese

Language and Literature, Chan Khan went on to further his studies at the London 

Film School. Besides his prolific career as a screenwriter, he has also written various 

novels. In 1995, he wrote and directed the film, Farewell My Dearest. Chan’s works 

have garnered many awards, including the 1990 film Beyond Sunset, which won the 

Best Screenplay and Best Film at the 9th Hong Kong Film Awards.

Chang Chia-lu 张家鲁

Taiwan

 

Chang Chia-lu is a multi-nominee and recipient of the Best Screenplay Award at the 42nd Taipei Golden Horse Awards for the film, A World Without Thieves.  Having graduated from the Taipei National University of the Arts with a Masters in Theatre Arts, Chang has written for magazines, television and movies, and previously worked at Nan Fang Film Productions, writing and developing scripts. He is known for his numerous collaborations with Director-Producer Chen Kuo-fu, such as the Detective Dee  and Tai Chi series. In 2013, he sat on the panel of the 50th Taipei Golden Horse Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Zeng Yong Ting 曾詠婷

Taiwan

 

Zeng Yong Ting is a up and coming scriptwriter from Taiwan. Having started her career as a copywriter for television commercials, she moved on to write scripts for television series, many of which have garnered top ratings in Taiwan. In 2008, Zeng’s script, “Ban Ruo Wu Ya” won the Excellent Screenplay award at the Golden Harvest Awards. “My Queen”, which Zeng was one of the scriptwriters for, was also remade into South Korea’s TVN television series “Witch’s Romance” in 2014. In 2015, her first feature film “Our Times” was released, becoming the second Chinese film to break the 100 million box office in 2015.

Jack Ng 吴炜伦

Hong Kong

 

Jack Ng is a Hong Kong screenwriter who debuted in 2000 after graduating with a BFA in Directing at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. With over 10 screenwriting credits to his name, he has been nominated twice for Best Screenplay at the Hong Kong Film Awards for The Beast Stalker and The Stool Pigeon. He is most notably known for collaborating with Hong Kong acclaimed film director Dante Lam 8 times, for projects such as The Twins Effect, The Viral Factor and Unbeatable.
